Tokyo Events This Week: Full Moon Fests, Fall Flowers, Fireworks, and Fun for Nintendo Fans

What's a Cheapo to do this week?

Tokyo events for Monday, September 29, to Sunday, October 5, 2025.

Moon viewing season is well and truly upon us, and this week features an eyeful of events to prove it. On top of that, you can check out a double-dose of fireworks, traditional dance, a Nintendo party, red spider lilies, and a ton of tasty food. Some of our favorites this week below.

Oct 4th

Teamwork genuinely makes the dream work at this fireworks festival. Kawasaki City and Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward join forces to stage their annual fireworks festival.

Oct 4th

This is Setagaya’s biggest fireworks festival, set to take place above the Tama River near Futakotamagawa Station on the Tokyu Denentoshi Line and the Tokyu Oimachi Line.

Oct 4th

The Chōfu Yosakoi festival puts on a display of high-energy dances. Aside from plenty of dancing, there is usually lots of festival food on offer, including oden, shaved ice, barbecued squid, yakisoba, and candy floss, as well as soft drinks and beer.

Sep 13th - Oct 4th

You must be wondering, what’s hagi? Well, it’s the Japanese name for bush clover. It might sound like a strange plant to have a festival for, but the event is more about enjoying Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens and its variety of beautiful fall plants.

Oct 4th - 5th

Ueno de Bueno! Food, dance, and music — that’s all you really need to know about this festival. Once you’re all tuckered out, refuel at the Latin American food and drink stalls.

Sep 19th - Oct 5th

As the spider lilies flower, the crowds once again gather. If red is your favorite color, be sure to mark this event on your calendar.

Oct 4th - 5th

This Lantern Festival used to take place on Marine Day in July but has moved to October to avoid the summer heat. There will also be live music, hula, and plenty of stalls vending food and beverages.

Oct 4th - 5th

Whether you’re a video game fan or just appreciate a good old-fashioned rhyming event name, Nintendo Live 2025 is worth getting excited about. With the recent release of the Nintendo Switch 2 and a raft of new games around the corner, this year’s event in particular has plenty to watch out for.

Oct 4th - 5th

Calling all inventors, tinkerers, and big idea-havers, Maker Faire is coming to Tokyo. Expect projects that range from robots, drones, and 3D printers to interactive art, handmade instruments, eco-tech experiments, and quirky DIY gadgets.

Oct 3rd - 12th

Brazilian artists Iris Fuzaro and Erick Rosa present 7 Days × 7 Years, a photography exhibition at Oak Cube Gallery in Shibuya from October 3 to 12.

Sep 19th - Oct 5th

The hip neighborhood will celebrate the start of autumn and the Japanese tradition of tsukimi (moon viewing) by holding an art festival on its streets. You can expect powerful installations, including a gigantic moon and a roving theater performance.

Oct 5th

This is Japan’s biggest plant-based festival. Food stalls will not use any animal products, including fish, egg, meat, dairy products, or honey, and will have labels displaying all ingredients used (though only in Japanese).

Oct 4th - 5th

Shinjuku Central Park is celebrating diversity with two days of festive fun. There will even be skiing — we aren’t sure exactly where they are getting the snow from.

Oct 2nd - 5th

The Hokkaidō Fair (also called “The Hokkai Shokudō”) is a 4-day celebration of the food of Japan’s northernmost prefecture.

Oct 1st - 5th

Belgian Beer Weekend is not a cheap event, but it’s a great opportunity to drink high-quality Belgian beer.

Oct 3rd - 6th

At the Fukagawa Jūgoya Festival in Fukagawa, you can really bask in the moonlight. The shrine grounds will be illuminated, and performers, including Japanese dancers and singers, will appear live on a special stage.

Oct 3rd - 7th

Ark Hills Music Week celebrates the power of music for 11 whole days. There will be events held throughout Minato City, including at Suntory Hall and Ark Hills Karajan Square.
