Tokyo events for Monday, July 14 to Sunday, July 20, 2025.
"Dancing in the street" is the motto for the next seven days as traditional dancers replace cars on Tokyo's roads.
What else? Fireworks will go off over the sea in Kamakura, fireflies will float around Setagaya, and lanterns will soar in Kanagawa.
Jul 18th
Head to a beach near Tokyo for fireworks in the summer. The Kamakura Fireworks Festival takes place at Yuigahama and Zaimokuza beaches on the coast of Kamakura City and will see around 2,500 fireworks shot into the sky.

The Mita Carnival is known for its food and drink stalls, parades, dancing, and iconic view of Tokyo Tower in the background. There is also live entertainment on the main stage.

Step into Japan's largest creators' festival, Handmade in Japan Fes. Goods will be both traditional and contemporary (often a blend of the two) — from tatami products to stylish phone cases.

The Setagaya Firefly Festival and White Egret Flower Market is a family-friendly summer tradition held on Boroichi Street. The most popular event is the chance to see fireflies while walking through a dark, enclosed dome.

This traditional event, also known as the Kumagaya Summer Festival, is a celebration of culture and community and features dynamic parades, colorful street performances, and iconic uchiwa fans. There will be beautifully decorated floats paraded through the town, accompanied by traditional music and dance performances.

Feast on festival food, watch performances, and launch glowing lanterns into the night sky. This event in Kawasaki, easily accessible from central Tokyo, offers a blend of traditional star-themed decorations, wish-writing, and a festive atmosphere.

The Mitama Matsuri at the politically complex Yasukuni Shrine sees 30,000 lanterns strung from towers of metal scaffolding to create a spectacular approach along the promenade leading to the main shrine.
